Taking care of our health

The preparations for going to our places of assignment were rigorous.

There was the language training, but what I found more thrilling was the receipt of the standard issues for volunteers. We get most of our supplies from the VSO stores, and we are given a briefing on how to properly use them.

The water filter comes with instructions to boil the water first (up to boiling point), let it cool, then pour it to the water filter.

The medical kit contains a triangular bandage, microporous tape, standard and medium sterile dressing, transparent plasters, alcohol free cleansing wipes, sterile gauze swabs, pharma strips, and powder free vinyl gloves.  Syringes, needles, infusion set, and cutting needles were also provided as these may not be easily available in our locations, and most importantly, to ensure that these are free from contamination.  The items together with instructions on how to use them all came from London.
